This site exists first and foremost as an additional resource for the weekly Bible study group that I facilitate. However, if you stumbled across these pages by another way, you are welcome to pull up a chair. It’s a small way of continuing to serve our group between our weekly gatherings, a labor of love that hopefully edifies and encourages my brothers and sisters in Christ to continue to dig deeper.

This site is a working record…not a finished product.

Whatever passage or book we’re currently working through, this is where I keep the trail of my own preparation. It’s a log of the questions I wrestled with, the commentaries I consulted, the connections I didn’t see coming until the fourth or fifth pass through the text. The Journal is that trail, laid out in order. It’s not a polished commentary…it’s an invitation to look over my shoulder while I prepare week-to-week.

The Archive page is where you will find all the notes organized by each book of the Bible. It’s just a simple way to see everything in one place.

The Resources page is an evolving toolbox. It’s a list of the commentaries, lexicons, maps, and other materials I lean on to prepare. It’s there so you don’t have to start from zero if something in our gathering sparks a question you want to chase further.

This isn’t tied to any one book or season of study. Right now we’re slowly walking through the Torah, but when we move on — to the Gospels, the Prophets, the Epistles, or wherever the Spirit may take us next — this site moves with us. Consider it a standing companion to whatever we’re studying, not a one-time project.

Why it matters

Part of shepherding a group like ours is the preparation you never see. This site is my attempt to hand you some of that hidden work, not so you have to do it my way, but so you have a model, a starting point, and hopefully something that inspires you to dig into the text yourselves.

My hope is that this doesn’t just give you information, but that it edifies and encourages you. I hope that by seeing how one person studies you have a little more confidence to open your own Bible during the week and follow a thread that caught your attention.

Scripture rewards return visits.

The church has always known this…that reading and re-reading isn’t repetition…it’s formation. The Word is, as the writer of Hebrews puts it, “living and active” (Hebrews 4:12), meeting us differently depending on where we are when we come to it.

So, this site isn’t meant to replace our weekly gatherings. It’s meant to support what happens in the space around those gatherings. It’s a place you can go to when you want to see the sources for yourself, or when you simply want to sit with a passage a little longer.

How to use it

• Come here before our gatherings, if you want a head start on the passage.
• Come here after our gatherings, if a question is still nagging at you.
• Come here between our gatherings, for no reason at all, and see what’s changed. The Journal grows and gets revised.
• Use the Resources page as a launchpad. Follow what interests you.

This site will never replace what happens when we’re in the same room. It’s just my way of staying present with you in the in-between. It’s a small offering, made with the hope that it helps you go deeper.
